As a small, local operator, we take our quality reputation on the Freedom Trail quite seriously. Hi Andrew, this is Ted Clark, owner of Hub Town Tours. I don’t care about the money spent, we only had one day in Boston and I feel like our time would have been much better spent doing a self guided Freedom Trail tour. If he even acknowledged it I didn’t hear it and he didn’t break stride. We walked right by the Old Corner Bookstore. Once we started walking only the first six or so people could hear what the guide was saying. He gave us a multiple minute description of James Otis’s personality. I liken it to someone who has tirelessly studied American history from 1765 to 1775 and wants to prove that they memorized every detail. And he repeated himself with the restating of a sentence with use of synonyms or repeated sentences with adjectives added. I found the minutiae that the guide brought into the stories completely uninteresting. My wife and kids asked if we could leave and I wasn’t arguing. An hour and 45 minutes in, at the bathroom break, we left the group and didn’t return. I booked based on the great reviews, and maybe this isn’t the tour for me, but I greatly disliked it. I found it incredibly boring, redundant, and many of details given were inconsequential, in my opinion. I love learning about history and love tours, so I was really looking forward to this tour. Do yourself a favor and just book this tour Hub Town Tours was exceptional! And the smaller group size was well worth the small extra cost. It was the perfect blend of history, storytelling, education, and theater. But, importantly to me during our very hot, sunny, afternoon tour, Mathew also made sure that our group stayed in the shade when we were walking, we never faced into the sun when he was talking, and he gave us lots of opportunities to sit down/rest while listening.Īll told, my whole family agreed that this was the best guided tour that we have ever taken…and we have taken MANY over the years. He engaged the girls by telling about some of the unsung teenage characters of the time period and swapped interesting historical book titles with my husband. Mathew had more knowledge than even he had time to share in our 2.5hr tour and my family found ourselves “pushing forward” just to walk next to him between stops & hear more stories. This package was all delivered effortlessly with humor, wit, and energy by our guide, Mathew. It was informative, engaging, historically accurate (as confirmed by my husband, who has a Masters degree on American Revolution history), and absolutely packed with relatable and humanizing stories of the past. If you are in the Boston area (even for just one day, like we were) please do yourself a favor and take this walking tour! Our whole family-including 11yr & 14yr old girls-loved this fast-paced tour of the Freedom Trail by Hub Town Tours and we all agreed it was literally the BEST guided tour that we have ever taken. Take this fast-paced walking tour of history, storytelling, & education with Hub Town Tours.
